Group Scout Leader's Report 2010 I am pleased to report that all Sections are functioning with balanced and progressive programmes. The sixty-year-old wooden hut continues to function, the Group's finances are up-to-date and we have a reasonable network of Section Leaders, Section Assistants, Helpers and Committee Members. I would like to remind everyone that the Scout Group is run by volunteers. None of the Leaders, Helpers, Executive Committee Members or GSL are paid, or profit financially from being in Scouts and it is run for the benefit of the children. To maintain our high standards more volunteers are required, your help will be appreciated on any level. You may like to volunteer your help as: a regular helper, on a parent rota, helping at an outdoor meeting or on the Executive Committee. Your help is also appreciated with constructive feedback and suggestions. Help is specifically required for: An Assistant Scout Leader, An Assistant Beaver Leader, A Secretary for the Executive Committee To encourage communication we have set up a website (www.7thmalvernscouts.org.uk) which provides lots of information about the group - in particular Section programmes and dates of events. To encourage feedback from the parents we are making a family tree of key people and contact details within the group. If you have a suggestion, feedback or a concern please contact these people. The Treasurer has reported a financial loss for the financial year 2008/2009. However, this includes two exceptional costs; the payment of two annual capitation payments and a five-year electricity bill (estimate versus actual). This equates to an annualised loss of about £400. Looking forward, the Executive Committee is aware that the lease for the land under the Scout Hut has expired. We are working with the Church Wardens at St. Peters, as the Church of England owns the ground. To renew the lease we are expecting administrative costs (solicitor + The Scout Association Trust Corporation) and an increase in the yearly rent (presently £5 per year). As our only source of income is through subs we have concluded that they will have to increase as of September 2010. Presently subs are collected by cheque/cash. To ease the administrative burden we would like to move to monthly direct debit system. We propose to set up this scheme in the coming autumn term and implement it in January 2011. Sharon and Rob Adams have stepped down from leading the Beaver Section and their enthusiasm and exciting programme of activities will be missed. Rob is now helping in Scouts and I hope Sharon will stay in contact with the Group. I am please to say that Adele Jolley has picked up the reins and all is well. The Group would also like to thank Tom Shepherd for leading Scouts in such a seamless and mature manner. Considering Tom is aged 19 we all think he has excelled himself. My thanks to all the Leaders, Helpers, Members of the Executive Committee, District and others who continue to give their warm and valued support.
