Group Scout Leader's Report 2011

I am pleased to report that all Sections are functioning well with strong leadership resulting in exciting programmes. We have a growing network of adult helpers, the sixty-year-old wooden hut continues to function, the Group's finances are up-to-date but the Group Executive needs new volunteers.

Brock does an excellent job with Scouts and has many able adult helpers, including Tim Corfield who we welcome back into the fold. Gail Morris has resigned her position as Cub Akela and Wayne Whittaker has ably taken on the role supported by Kate & Martin. Adele runs Beavers in a professional manner, strongly supported by Pauline and Vicky. In addition, parents support Cubs and Beavers through a parent rota system.

In January we became aware of a leak in the roof. Temporary repairs were made but it was realised that the valley of the flat roof was in very poor condition and money would be required to make repairs. A number of successful fund-raisers were undertaken, including bag-packing, car-washing and a barbecue. These activities brought the Group closer, with children, parents and leaders working together. We were also gratefully supported by a generous donation and a grant from Malvern Hills Lions Club. The repair to the roof was successfully undertaken 14/15th May 2011. In addition the lighting was improved, the floor stabilised, hedges cut and a power supply to the garage partially installed. A special thanks to those members of the Camp Horn working party who gave their time so generously and with such good humour. Looking ahead, we would like to re-decorate and replace the carpet, so more fund-raising will be required!

During the course of the year we have changed from collecting fees termly to a monthly direct debit system. On the whole this is a vast improvement as it reduces the administration effort. We have made a small financial loss this year which is partly owing to the crossover from one fee-collecting system to another, and partially because we have yet to submit for Gift Aid from HM Revenue & Customs.

Help is required:

My thanks to all the leaders, helpers, members of the Executive Committee, District, and others who continue to give their warm and valued support.
