Scout Leader's Report 2010The Scout Troop has been its usual active self this last year; we have tried new activities and some old favourites in the programme and I believe that all in all it was a successful year. We ran a Summer Camp at Fromes Hill, run largely by Tom Shepherd and "QM'ed" by James Wall, not too far from home, but it might have been the other end of the country as far as the boys were concerned. We were joined by our friends from 1st Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire. This arrangement worked well and looks to be continuing this year. We ran Spring Camp at Rhydd Covert, a Scout campsite with facilities, a change from the usual but a useful tool to introduce new campers to the art. We were joined there by James' troop from 25th Cardiff, including 2 girls! A first for us. We took part in the site activities; the climbing and abseiling proving popular. Our congratulations go to Marcus on achieving his Chief Scouts Award (Gold). This is the highest award for the Scout Section and requires a lot of hard work, some of which isn't built into the Scout programme and has to be self-motivating, well done Marcus! I may add that with little or no real effort 3 or 4 other Scouts could be in line for the same award. The year took a down turn for me personally; in October I had a serious bout of depression which required me to hand over the reins for a while. Hopefully no-one realised anything was amiss as the rest of the leadership team rallied round and carried on as if nothing had happened. Happily I am over that now and back at the helm. I would like to thank Fran, James, Tom Stocker, Dave and Rob for their work in keeping the troop running. Of particular note is Tom Shepherd who stepped up to the plate and took over the co-ordination of everything and the week-to-week running of the troop. Thanks Tom. Whilst I am thanking, I thank you, the parent, for your trust; the leadership team is committed to providing challenging activity in a safe, controlled fashion, and we value the trust you place in us. You should be aware of the 'In Touch' arrangement for contacting the leaders at a troop meeting. (A mobile phone is dedicated to this arrangement: 07951240670) If you have any issues please feel free to approach any of the team and we 'will do our best' to allay your fears. Brock
