7th Malvern (St Peter’s and St Joseph’s) Scout Group Annual General Meeting 2nd July 2010
Chairman’s Report on behalf of the Group Executive Committee I would like to thanks Kevin Douglas - the previous Chairman, who had been a part of 7th Malvern Scout Group since its inception where the 6th and 8th became the 7th; as a Scout Leader, Cub Leader and Chairman. A big thanks to Liz Eyre - our Treasurer, picking up from Neil Toussaint. Liz has the most onerous task in the Executive Committee, and she has brought the accounts up to standard; we are now better able to secure and plan for the future. We are very lucky to have Liz's expertise in a voluntary manner. We do need to be better able to meet our future potential liabilities, given the likely increased rent and with subs as our only income, both of which are presently being examined. Another big thank-you yo Adele Jolley - our Secretary for the last 7 or 8 years. Adele has now taken over from Sharon and Rob in running Beavers, and may now no longer be Secretary. Thank-you too to Wayne Whittaker, who has been a very valuable addition to the Exec, and has brought a lot of invigorating energy, knowledge and expertise along with a Parent's perspective. Thanks to Ruth King, who has quietly turned out to let guests use the Hut, although we now presently have none. If anyone wishes to hire a child proof venue please contact Ruth; discounted rates available for Friends of the 7th. Thanks to Paul Lambert, who has set up our website; which is an excellent resource - www.7thmalvernscouts.org.uk A continued thank-you to Mrs Lunn, who continues to allow us to use the Paddock; sadly she is unable to attend tonight due to another family tragedy. Sadly, Vince Lloyd died last year after a comparatively short illness and at a young age; Vince kindly and skillfully repaired all our tents, preserving them further and saving a great deal of money; our thoughts go out to his loved ones. Most of the Executive Committee attended an excellent training day on 31st October 2009, and we all learned a great deal and will recommend all future members to attend this. A quick recap of the function of the Executive Committee: it is to support the Group Scout Leader, and the Section Leaders do what they do. It has to meet its obligations to the Charities Commission and Scout Association; ensuring that the Group is reasonably financially secure, and that the premises are fit for purpose. It does not provide governance to the Leadership which is the responsibility of the GSL with the District Commissioner and Scout Association. We need new members - new energies, new inspiration, new wisdom. It is a relatively small commitment in comparison to the Leadership teams. It is also interesting and good fun. There is information available and/or talk to one of us. There is scope for assistant roles for those who want to rup up to a role; none of us are precious about our roles and if anyone wishes to stand there is opportunity shortly. We would like to continue doing what we are doing as a Group and we welcome any compliments, concerns or complaints - we are in the process of putting an information board up in the vestibule with names, roles and contact details. If all is going well please tell others; if you feel it is not please tell us.
