 SUMMER 2009

Dear Parent

I trust that you had a restful summer and if you got away, that the weather was kind to you.

Scout meetings will re –commence on 11th September with a meeting in the HQ, starting as usual at 7.30.

Subs of £30.00 will be due, cheques payable to “7th Malvern Scout Group” please.

We have to say goodbye to Mike Sherwood as he has “moved on” to Explorer scouts,

there are others in their last term and I would hope that they will take all the opportunities offered before they to move on.

That said then, we will have one vacancy for a Patrol leader and after Christmas another.

It is fair to say I have no obvious candidates, so I may try out some permutations before I settle on a permanent appointment.

So, if your lad comes home one evening saying he is in charge of the Panther patrol, it may be true but the position may not be permanent, for now!

This term is the start of the scout year, we start our training of scouts afresh, programme items may seem familiar to the older scout, but the aim of this is to move up a level.

Where a scout may have taken part, this time we would expect him to take a leading role, allowing the new scouts, (and we have 2 to date), to do the taking part.

The scout now has to complete 8 0f 9 scout challenges to get his Chief Scouts Award (Gold), many of the older scouts have done 3 or 4; with your encouragement perhaps we could achieve a few more gold badges around the troop, just as Marcus has done! (Well done Marcus).

Just one more plea! I know uniform is an unpopular item but we are a uniformed organisation just as the army cadets , air cadets, boys brigade and young fire-fighters, if any boy were to show up at those organisations without uniform they would be sent away and they don’t bother trying.

I can find my uniform as can the rest of the leaders, so it shows a poor sense of pride and self discipline when a scout “can’t be bothered” to ensure he has his.

Please encourage your boy to wear his uniform with pride, to sew on and show off the badges he has achieved.

Refer to his record book ( or this website ! ) for positions of badges and a description of the uniform.

Brock
